Increase almost three times the average growth rate in the European market.
A double-digit number of sales increase, high investments in R&D, registrations and new indications along with the strengthening of the international impact on the most important European markets as well as the formation of a new affiliate in China – just to name a few of the highlights in 2008 which stand for the successful development of Chiesi Farameutici.
A growth in sales of +14,3% summing up to 748 million Euro has been reached without significant acquisitions and despite of price cuts during 2007 and 2008. More than half of the growth has been achieved with corporate products developed by the company. Today there are 3.243 people working for Chiesi Farmaceutici worldwide.
The investments made by Chiesi in 2008 totalled 39,1 million Euro and concerned above all the industrial production sector, not only in Parma, but also in France and Brazil. The internationalisation process has been continued with special emphasis on Turkey, The Netherlands, Brazil, Russia and China – the latter as newly established affiliate.
Chiesi holds 264 patents granted worldwide, 14 new patent applications were filed in 2008. A total of 108 million EUR, 14,4% of the turnover, has been invested in R&D activities in 2008.
The plans for 2009 continue to be ambitious: a turnover in excess of 830 million Euro is forecast by the Chiesi Group.
